Brushing Elbows with Fame

As you know from the previous post, today is my daughter's 20th birthday.

It also happens to be the grand opening of Legacy Cakes in Grapevine,TX. Legacy Cakes is owned by none other than Megan Rountree.

For those of you who don't know, Megan is the winner of TLC's "Next Great Baker." Follow the link above and follow her through the transformation of her new storefront.  She has some great "before's,", and in the picture below, you can have a sneak peak at the "after."

For Sam's birthday, I stopped in and was lucky enough to purchase the first cake she has sold at the new store! She even autographed it for us! What a terrific young woman for making Sam's day more memorable! Just another example of a young woman following her passion.

We don't normally do anthything "Christmas" around Samantha's birthday, but here were were delighted to make an exception !

Thank you Megan!

If you are near Grapevine, go in and purchase a cupcake or cake! Let's continue to support new talent when we find it!

Not Christmas, but Just as Special

Time has a way of slipping through your fingers, and as you get older, it is as if you have slathered on way too much lotion, because it goes even faster. I say this for all you "newer" mothers out there, because before you know it . . .

this precious bundle that has been placed in your hands, will be off on their own, and your heart will ache for them a little each day.

Take each day, as it comes . . . even when they are HARD! Enjoy each twitch of the cheek in sleep, the smell of their skin, the way they curl all their fingers around just one of yours.

Twenty years ago today, I was given a very special gift from God. She was not in the package I would have preferred, but His infinite wisdom gave her the strength to overcome her trials, and me the strength to help her along.

Happy Birthday Samantha!

Helloooo Cookies . . . Gooodbye Diet

'Tis the season to be jolly . . . and if I eat all these Christmas cookies, I'm gonna look like the "Jolly Old Man" himself.

Gotta love cookie exchange parties, especially if you don't bake (and I don't, so I DO)

Enjoy the picture parade! Ho Ho Ho

Project Run-Amuck

Have you ever had one of those projects where on thing leads to another?  Well  I am currently knee-deep in one of those just such projects!

I all started with a hole in the garage ceiling that I asked my son to help repair.

(minor hole)

Well, 100sf of drywall, 8 hrs of un-tape-and-bed, re-tape and bed, 2 1/2 gal of primer (not finished with that yet),

all your
worldly garage goods
grown son's dresses (among other things)
(more crap-ola)

strewn in the yard for you neighbors to see (some thought it was a garage sale). Another second day of priming and hopefully painting, and it just might be ready for Between Naps on the Porch's Metamorphosis Monday.

Here is the sneak peek to the transformation-in-progress of Mr. Fisherman's Bat Cave.

Oh yea . . . I forgot to mention we needed a Hazmat Team for the removal of this
yep . . . that is what you think it is . . .
and in the middle of the night, I was scrambling for rags (by flashlight)
because the shelf unit we left in the driveway fell over leading to our own
BP Oil Indecent

Holiday Vignette (still evolving) & Blog Love

First, I want to take the time to than all you wonderful blogger buddies for taking the time to visit and leave me the lovin!

As A "new kid on the block" I still get the feeling that I am talking to myself most of the time, so hearing from you brightens my day.

I wanted to post my scaled-back decorating. As my children have grown, I don't feel the need to drag the 8 or so tubs out of the attic to decorate, but I do love change (as my mister can attest to). I say this about change, because I tease that when he returns from an afternoon of fishing, he's not sure he's in the right place because I've drug out the paint, rollers and brushes . . .but ahh, I digress . . .

Now for the vomit parade of pictures.

Holiday Disappointment?

Yep . . .

I did it again . . .
I've disappointed my children again this holiday season!

How you ask?
They say one picture is worth a thousand words . . .

 Well here is that picture
 I know, your saying . . .
I don't get it . . .
What's the problem?

Well, it's the tree, you see. My children refer to it as the "anorexic Christmas tree". They hate it . I love it!

It does not require me to re-arrange the entire house just to set it up. Move one chair, and as Emeril says "BAMM", empty spot.

Add the glitz and glamor, and she purrs like a kitten!
